A calm companion through breast cancer treatment.
A calm digital companion for people living with breast cancer: classify food, record symptoms, keep medication in view, collect appointments and prepare questions for the treatment team. Free, no account, no tracking. Your personal data stays on your device.
A little order when too much is happening at once.
A breast cancer diagnosis changes everything. Eating, the day, the body, appointments, side effects, questions. Brustkrebs-Kompass brings these things into one place: understandable, ad-free, without an account and with data that stays with you.
A short overview here. Deeper detail on dedicated pages.
The homepage stays light. People who want to review, test or go deeper can follow the page that matches their question.

The app should not pull people away from real life. It supports questions, medical appointments, movement, food and uncertainty with calm language and clear boundaries.
Understand first, then use.
Brustkrebs-Kompass starts without a login. Before the first function, the app calmly explains what it can do: inform, organise, remind and help you prepare. It is just as clear about what it does not do: no diagnosis, no treatment decisions, no replacement for medical advice. Emergency numbers are directly accessible.
Note on the screenshots below. Screenshots show the German UI. The app is fully bilingual (DE/EN). English UI screenshots are available on request via team@brustkrebs-kompass.de.
What helps in everyday life.
Three screens from daily use: mood and journal in the morning, food suggestions matched to therapy phase, symptoms and local tolerance feedback, plus a therapy timeline that stretches over years rather than days.
Informing and organising, without replacing treatment.
What the app does
- Presents curated information from published research, every statement with a source reference.
- Lets users record and track symptoms, blood values, medications, appointments and self-assessments.
- Provides reminders, self-reflection tools and materials to prepare for medical appointments.
- Flags unconfirmed content as such and references the German S3 guideline (AWMF), EFSA, WCRF and peer-reviewed PubMed sources.
What the app does not do
- No diagnoses, no individual risk assessment.
- No therapy instructions, no dosing recommendations, no medication substitution.
- No evaluation in the sense of medical judgement. Blood values are shown as reference, not interpreted.
- No claim of completeness. In acute situations: seek medical advice, call the emergency number.
The content is intended for adults aged 18 and older. The focus is on breast cancer pathways as guidelines most often describe them for women. Men with breast cancer, relatives and people in special life situations are explicitly welcome. In acute situations, medical advice and the emergency number apply.
Conscious decision: free, no prescription, not a DiGA.
Brustkrebs-Kompass is and remains free for all users and available without a medical prescription. It is deliberately not listed as a Digital Health Application (DiGA, § 33a SGB V), because a DiGA listing routinely excludes groups we want to reach: privately insured patients, men with breast cancer, people with comorbidities, international users without German statutory insurance and people without a prescription. This keeps the app accessible without prescription, without insurance membership and across borders.
CE marking and MDR classification will still be carried out.
Even without a DiGA listing, the app undergoes classification under Regulation (EU) 2017/745 (MDR) with external legal counsel; the decisive guidance is MDCG 2019-11. Likely outcome: not a medical device, since information, tracking and self-reflection do not fall under the MDR definition. The result will be documented here once finalised. Details in the FAQ; legal counsel is financed via donations.
Sources visible, originals reachable.
Every food assessment references its mechanism of action and the underlying literature. Blood values are presented as a trend, not interpreted. The research feed pulls current publications directly from PubMed. Original pages usually open in English.
Twelve modules, one everyday life.
Use only what helps today. Every module is optional, on-device and makes no claim of interpretation.

Personal data stays with you.
All personal entries (symptoms, blood values, medications, appointments, emergency profile, favourites, journal entries, meal history and tolerance feedback) are processed and stored exclusively on the device. The app needs neither an account nor cloud sync. Outbound connections are limited to a small number of named endpoints and carry no personal identifiers.
- AES-GCM encryption: all personal data encrypted on-device, master key in the iOS Keychain or the Android Keystore.
- No account, no cloud: we do not know you, and we do not want to.
- No tracking, no ads, no analytics: declared in the privacy manifest.
- Public endpoints, no profiles: Supabase, Open Food Facts, PubMed and Semantic Scholar receive no user ID and no user-entered health data.
- Local export: you can export your data as a PDF and decide yourself whether to share it.

Also for the hard days.
Brustkrebs-Kompass includes a mindset module with affirmations, guided breathing exercises (4-7-8, box breathing), a gratitude and thoughts journal, and a collection of small wins. It is not treatment and makes no treatment claim: it is a quiet space when daily life gets loud.
112 (the EU-wide emergency number) and crisis lines are reachable from the module with a single tap. Outside the EU, use your local emergency number.
What the content rests on.
Every food assessment, every interaction and every recommendation tag references a named source.

Donation-funded, so no one is left out.
Brustkrebs-Kompass is and remains free for all users. To make that possible, the app is financed exclusively by voluntary donations. Every contribution goes into clinical curation of the database, translations, legal counsel for the MDR procedure, server operations and new modules.
The campaign just launched. Be among the first supporters who help carry the app over the legal hurdle.
What contributions are used for
- Maintenance of the food, recipe and interaction database when new guideline versions appear
- Translations into English and, over time, further languages
- Legal counsel for the MDR classification procedure
- External medical review by oncology and nutrition science
- Server, domain and tooling costs
- Development of new modules, for example food intelligence and better interaction search
What does not happen
- No advertising, no data sales. No funder influences our content or assessments.
- No data sharing with health insurers, research or advertisers
- No hidden premium features
- No affiliate commissions for recommendations
- No sale to an investor with return expectations
The operator is a private individual, not a non-profit corporation. Donation receipts with tax deductibility under § 10b EStG (German Income Tax Act) are therefore currently not possible. If a non-profit organisation (association, foundation) is interested in patronage or sponsorship, we welcome contact via team@brustkrebs-kompass.de.
